OCD Forum – Why Your Therapist May Be Making Your OCD Worse

OCD Forum – Why Your Therapist May Be Making Your OCD Worse

Article by Derek J. Soto

Do you go to a therapist for your OCD?

Do you honestly feel like you’re making any progress?

Have you been going for years?

If you don’t feel like you are making any progress or that it’s just taking too long, your therapist may be making your OCD worse or at least dragging it out unintentionally.

The reason that they may be making it worse is the fact that when they talk to you about it and get you to talk about it, it brings it to your focus and foremost attention.

The therapist is making you think of it and relive it over and over again. They keep reminding you of it over and over again and that is not how you cure OCD!

You don’t cure OCD by dwelling on it, you cure it by NOT thinking about it.

Ask some people you know that don’t have OCD and don’t perform rituals.

Ask them how often they think about OCD or performing rituals. They will usually say extremely seldom to NONE!

That is why they don’t have OCD!

You want to get to where they are you have to think like they do, OCD free!

So if you have been seeing a therapist for more than six months and you have not had progress with your OCD, you should discontinue seeing them if all you’re seeing them for is the OCD.

It will be better for you to find a program where someone who once had OCD has since gotten over it and is not OCD free.

Do your research and do diligence online and find the program that is right for you.

Another alternative is to find a therapist that has proven results with curing OCD and go to them.

You’ll probably pay a lot, but if they help you get your OCD cured for life, isn’t it worth it?

Take action: re-assess the situation between you and your therapist. Are you getting better? If not, you should seek out a therapist that has proven results with OCD or better yet, a program that you like that will help you become OCD free. Again do your own research and choose the program that is right for you. If you don’t like the program, you won’t do it, so make sure that you like it first.

Finding An Ocd Cure – Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Can Be Cured

Finding An Ocd Cure – Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Can Be Cured

OCD stands for obsessive-compulsive disorder. A little over 2 percent of the United States’ population is affected by OCD, and most are women. OCD can develop at any time in a person’s life and can affect anyone, regardless of age or ethnic background. An individual suffering from OCD has a difficult time leading a normal life due to their repetitive rituals and obsessions.

Some common rituals include excessive hand-washing, checking repeatedly to make sure the doors are locked, counting, etc. Other preoccupations may include excessive concern with dirt, contamination, attention to detail, intrusive thoughts about violence, hurting someone else or themselves, frequent thoughts about taboo sexual activities that seem uncontrollable, and a fear that something terrible is going to happen.

Fortunately, there is an OCD cure. The bad news is that OCD is one of the most difficult illnesses to break free from. Rituals can last up to several hours and sometimes even days.

A lot of people repeat simple rituals over and over again throughout the day. Many individuals suffer from embarrassment and shame, and choose not to seek an OCD cure. OCD usually will not go away on it’s own without some form of treatment.

Professional counseling is said to be the most effective OCD cure. During counseling, an individual is asked to talk about their disorder. Fears, types of rituals, anxieties, and obsessions are directly addressed during sessions. The patient will have to talk about the way that their obsessions and rituals make them feel. They will talk about how their behaviors interfere with their life. Every question that can be asked will be in order to get to the bottom of why the obsessions and rituals are occurring.

The patient will also be forced to confront their condition by completing a series of exercises. For example, if the patient is suffering from compulsions related to hand-washing, part of their treatment plan will be to refrain from washing their hands so frequently.

Treatments will last until an improvement is made. Oftentimes, an individual has more than one ritual or obsession. In that case, they will begin with the one that is either the least or most difficult, and then work their way down the list until each problem is eliminated.

Medication is provided to balance chemicals in the brain. Antidepressants and benzodiazepines are the two most common types of medications prescribed to individuals with OCD. If a prolonged period of time passes by with no noticeable improvement, more intense therapy may be necessary. Examples of more intense therapy include hospitalization and deep brain stimulation using electrodes.

With time and patience, OCD can be cured. Depending on how bad the illness is, the time it takes for an OCD cure will vary. The key is to remain on the right course by receiving persistent therapy and not give up.
